General Information

An Emergency Certificate (EC) is a one-way travel document issued to Indian nationals who are not in possession of a valid Indian passport and need to return to India. This document is issued under emergency conditions, usually to those who have:

  • Lost their passport
  • Overstayed their visa/permit
  • Been detained/deported
  • Are under amnesty programs
  • It is valid for direct travel to India only, with no stopovers or further travel allowed.

Eligibility Criteria:

An EC can be issued to:

  • Indian nationals without a valid passport
  • Those with expired passports and no documents for renewal
  • Persons who have been detained/deported by local authorities
  • Applicants under labour disputes or absconding cases
  • Individuals with court orders or other compelling reasons

Follow the below steps in order to apply

  • Visit Appointment Portal : Book an appointment on https://www.skylane.com/bh/india
  • Fill Application : Complete the EC application form manually or at the IVAC counter.
  • Submit Documents : Visit the Indian Visa & Passport Centre with required documents and photos.
  • Interview (if required) : The Embassy may conduct an interview or verification.
  • Processing Time : Generally 2–3 working days, depending on Embassy clearance.
  • Collection : Applicant will be informed when the EC is ready. Must collect in person.
