General Information on OCI

OCI stands for Overseas Citizenship of India. It is a special status granted to persons of Indian origin (PIOs) who are citizens of other countries, allowing them to live and work in India indefinitely.

Registered OCI Cardholders shall be entitled to the following benefits:

  • Multiple entry lifelong visa for visiting India for any purpose.
  • Exemption from registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) for any length of stay in India.
  • Parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of all facilities available to them in economic, financial, and educational fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.
  • Registered Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder shall be treated at par with Non-Resident-Indians in the matter of inter-country adoption of Indian children.
  • Registered Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder shall be treated at par with resident Indian nationals in the matter of tariffs in air fares in domestic sectors in India.
  • Registered Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder shall be charged the same entry fee as domestic Indian visitors to visit national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in India.

Follow the below steps in order to apply for OCI:

  1. Create an account (Register yourself) on Bahrain Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
  2. Login to the Indian Government's Online OCI Services portal. Follow these steps:
    1. Select the type of service required
    2. Complete the application online (Part A and Part B).
    3. Upload documents (self-attested), photograph, [not less than 51x51 mm with 80% coverage of face, light color background (not white), without border, front view, minimum dimensions are 200 x 200 pixels and maximum dimensions are 900 pixels x 900 pixels] and signature [in case of minors who cannot sign, left-hand thumb impression is required]. Photograph and signature must be in JPEG/JPG format with max size 200 KB.
  3. Book your appointment online at Bahrain Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Bahrain ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
  4. Ensure that you carry all your documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section. 
  5. Visit the Bahrain ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appointment letter. 
  6. Kindly ensure you reach Bahrain ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
  7. Submit your application and deposit your fees at Bahrain ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section.
  8. While your application is in process, you can track your application to know the current stage of your application process. Click Here to track your application online.
